Lithographie sur Albâtre : Collection Pierre d'Artiste

Lithographie sur Albâtre, when stone becomes the interpreter of the artwork. A material formed millions of years ago, shaped by twenty five years of research, now becomes both the medium and the interpreter of some of the greatest artists in the history of art. The first collection born from this technique, Pierre d'Artiste, brings together three masters, Matisse, Monet and Michelangelo, revealing to the world a third dimension that had remained unseen until now.

THE THIRD DIMENSION

A painting has two dimensions: width and height. Lithographie sur Albâtre reveals a third dimension: depth. Illuminated from within, the stone opens up. The sediments held within it for millions of years, its veins, clouds and translucent areas, become a means of revealing the artist’s vision. As every block of alabaster is unique, so too is every artwork.
The origin. The idea was born while contemplating a tapestry woven by the Manufacture nationale de Beauvais after Henri Matisse’s Polynésie, la mer. “Why not create an interpretation in alabaster?” It took years of research to answer that question. From that answer, Pierre d'Artiste was born.

AN UNPRECEDENTED TECHNIQUE

Five stages determine the final result: the search for the stone that will carry the artwork, digitally controlled crystallisation, chromatic adjustment, engraving and its protection, and illumination. Each stage is decisive. The finished work is the result of mastering them all.

“Acquiring an artwork. Signed by Alain Ellouz, each piece is unique. It carries the essence of the original work and adds what painting alone could not offer : a third dimension.”
